Favorite Anime of 2015

Oregairu 2

hiki 2

Also known as My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO, but I don’t typically refer to it by that mouthful of a title. Still, what an excellent show, my absolute favorite of the spring season. I was already a huge fan of the first season, and now it’s come back with even more beautiful visuals and music. What’s even better is that the characters relationships are starting to go somewhere. With great writing and lines that melted my heart, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this week after week. Can’t wait for season 3!

Working!!!

working!!!2

Speaking of 3rd seasons, Working!!! came to an end last year, and by god was it a blast. That shows humor seriously knows no bounds, and never ceased to make me smile. Thankfully, it ended (as good things always do), and in a way that left me completely satisfied. The proper characters were thoroughly shipped, the restaurant still lives on, and Yamada is still cute as ever.

Punchline

punchline

Holy shit, I did not see this one coming. For a while this show really had me going. It made a bunch of weird rules for itself and the story progressed through the confines of those rules. It was an interesting way to tell a story, and was full of comical and action-packed moments that kept me entertained throughout. Even the “fanservice” was done in a fun way that was integral to the actual plot. It was not boring or contrived, but intriguing and fresh, not to mention visually stunning. Punchline told a very nice story and wrapped it up in 12 episodes. Needless to say, it impressed me.

Owarimonogatari

brilliant

It’s SHAFT, so it’s fucking great. Not just normal great. FUCKING GREAT. THIS SHOW WAS FUCKING GREAT. Also, it really offered up some great lines for fans of the series.

Honorable Mentions:

Himouto! Umaru-chan

1e9779723401a29d9a3dd859d41f2ab0

This one was just a good time. Himouto! Umaru-chan had a nice cast of characters and plenty of GIF worthy moments. Also, really good merchandising potential. Plus, it was fun to watch.

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

This one really took me by surprise. The episode 0 OVA did not do it justice, as it was something worth watching after you had gotten to know the characters, not before. That being said, the characters are great and self-aware of the particular tropes they play. And I just really like otaku characters in anime.

GATE

Speaking of otaku characters in anime (damn, I am on a roll with these segways), GATE. (Okay, not so good on the follow up) GATE was fun, and I’d love to see more.

Gourmet Girl Graffiti

Also SHAFT, and also awesome. Just not “monogatari” awesome. Still, really cute show about friendship and food and eating ice cream in a bath for some reason. Don’t question it, just enjoy.

Oh, and best OP and ED both go to Punchline. Really excellent stuff.

Crispyn64’s Ultimate Guide to Twitter

Updates: [Update:1.30.2016]

shirotwitter

What the fuck is this?

Good question, bold letters. Let me elaborate. I’ve decided to write a (not really) comprehensive guide to the social media website, Twitter. This is a list of do’s and do not’s, and all around helpful input from yours truly on how to tweet like a pro. The thing is, Twitter changes from time to time, as does the rest of the internet. And with those changes (like stars to hearts), will come updates to this post. So please come back for more.

Updates will be marked with as such: [Update:Date]

Why the fuck should I listen to you?

Another good question, bold letters. You see, I’m not some sort of business strategist or marketing mastermind. I’m just an aniblogger that’s sick of people not using Twitter to the fullest, and making problematic mistakes without even knowing it. I’m not saying I know everything, and my word might as well be law. I just think my advice should be taken into consideration. But you probably have more followers than I do, so whatever.

So here it is, my Ultimate, Everchanging Guide to Twitter:

About Yourself

hot araragi

Don’t be an egg: Don’t be an egg, dude/dudette. You may not care and only have a Twitter account to follow others, but don’t be an egg. It doesn’t even need to be a picture of yourself. Anything will do, as long as it’s something that defines even a sliver of who you are. If you are someone that is really into eggs, then find another picture of one. It’s social media, be a person.

Don’t have a plain color header: That’s almost as bad as being an egg. Don’t have a plain color header, especially if it’s the default light blue. People will think you don’t care. Maybe you’d want that, but I wouldn’t.

Don’t have low resolution pictures: Not as your profile photo, not as your header, not as ANYTHING. That’s even worse than having a plain color. Plain colors don’t have a resolution, they’re just colors. But you shouldn’t use either.

Have a real description: You might not care about yourself, but others will. They will go to your profile in hopes to learn something about you and instead will find a stupid joke or worse, NOTHING! Be a person. (This does not apply if you are already world famous. Everyone already knows who you are so it doesn’t matter)

Your pinned tweet: Your pinned tweet is by far your most important. It’s the first one people will see when they take a look at your profile. This, unlike your description, can be anything you want it to be. It can be used for relevant things, like a new Kickstarter you’re launching, or it can just be a masturbation joke, like mine. Either way, it can set the tone for your entire profile, so make sure it’s good.

Switch up your look once in a while: You’re avatar is getting stale! It can’t last forever! What a sad, sad world we live in. But sometimes we have to move on. So update your pic and banner once in a while. Not too often, though, because that can get annoying/confusing for your followers.

Your Tweets

best girl

Caption your pictures: Sure, that’s a nice, scenic photo you posted there, but what is it? Where is it? What does it mean? Are you breaking up with me? Erhm, the point I’m trying to make is that context is important. It’s important in every tweet, but at the very least, caption your pictures. It could be a dumb joke or a blatant description. Just caption it. For me?

Be grammatical: Good grammar is just a nice habit to get into. You’ll have the occasional misspelling, but for the most part, try to be grammatically correct. For me, again?

Tweet @ people: It’s the internet and the people you are talking about can hear you. It’s unlikely they’ll even give you the time of day, but still. If you want to complain about Nintendo, tell @ nintendo. But also, if you don’t have anything constructive to say, then it probably doesn’t need to be said. But if you have a compliment or concern, TELL THEM! Hey @ tomhanks! I really liked you in The Terminal! There, I said it!

You might want to turn off auto-tweets: It can be helpful for YouTube channels and other shit to auto-tweet your published work the second it’s out there. This is okay, but be weary for two reasons: 1. Hand crafted tweets often look better and have a more personal touch that can be seen and appreciated by those reading it. 2. If all your tweets are just auto-promoting your shit, you’re making Twitter nothing more than a glorified notification system, and Twitter can be so much more.

Seriously, caption pictures and give credit to where it’s due: I know I said this last time, but I felt it was necessary to repeat. CAPTION YOUR SHIT! Seriously, add a description at the very least. I don’t know what I’m looking at and neither will anybody else. Also, give credit to creators of said picture. Because they made it, and if you tweet it, people will think it’s yours, and that kinda makes you a thief. Thieves are bad. Unless you’re Nathan Drake or something.

Think before you tweet: This is just a general rule of life. Think about what you’re doing before you do it. Why? For a number of reasons, really. Reason #1: So you don’t make an ass of yourself. I mean, unless you want to.

Read it over: ‘cause grammer and spelling fukk-ups; suck.

Use hashtags: I mean, if you want to. Hashtags are nice. They’re trendy and shit, and chances are that if you use them, you’re going to get noticed by more people.

Use relevant hashtags: I know they’re meant to extend your reach, but reach in the right directions. If you’re tweeting about how hyped you are for Fallout 4 (keep in mind this was originally posted before the release of Fallout 4), you probably don’t want to be using the hashtag #PeeOnADog. Unless that’s something you can actually do in Fallout 4. GOD, I CAN’T WAIT FOR FALLOUT 4. Erhm, but feel free to use the hashtag #fuckvine, because that’s always relevant and needs to be repeated until it dies.

Don’t just hawk your shit: [Update:1.30.2016] Seriously, nobody wants to be advertised to. Or at least, most people don’t, so don’t use Twitter solely to throw your shit at me. It’s okay to remind people from time to time that you have a blog or a YouTube channel or a Patreon or whatever, but if that’s all you’re doing then you’re doing a disservice to me, and to your followers (probably). Tweet some jokes or opinions or polls or something other than the stuff you do in other places on the internet. And don’t fucking Tweet your Vines, but more on that somewhere else in this guide.

Things to watch out for

nisekoi 4

Don’t follow your friends: [Update:1.30.2016] Let me reiterate. It’s okay to follow your friends, just don’t follow them because they’re your friends. Follow people you want to follow, and if you’ve seen their Tweets and aren’t interested, don’t demean yourself out of some sense of “friendship”. Go to Facebook for that bullshit. This may seem a little egotistical, but that’s perfectly alright. Follow who you want to follow, and hopefully people will follow you for the same reason.

Don’t follow back: [Update:1.30.2016] Same as the aforementioned point of “Don’t follow your friends”, except this applies to everyone. Follow who you want to follow. If someone expects you to follow them back, don’t, because all that really means is that they don’t care about what you have to say, they just want your follow. I’ll repeat this once more, this time in all caps: FOLLOW WHO YOU WANT TO FOLLOW.

The power of Twitter

hiki1

The power of retweeting: [Update:1.30.2016] Retweeting can do a lot, quite possibly more than you think it can. While “liking” is all well and good, retweeting has a whole new level of power. Whether you have 10 followers or 10,000, every retweet counts because those followers could potentially retweet to their follows and so on. And this gives you the potential to help out the original creator of said Tweet. More views equals more possible followers. Just be careful with your retweets, you never want to be retweeting more than you actually Tweet. Why? Because I said so (among other, better reasons).

Reminder, this is a “living document” and is subject to change/updates. If you have anything you disagree with or thought of something I missed, feel free to tweet at me. Your input is much appreciated. Join me in making Twitter a better place.

It’s Feature Week, Baby!

owari araragi 2That’s right, every day for the next week, I will be releasing a new feature blog post for your reading pleasure. Writing quality posts is harder than it looks, but I figured I’d go all out to ring in the New Year! And with the New Year comes new surprises, the first being the launch of my brand-spanking new blog, There Goes My Kokoro.

About “There Goes My Kokoro”

First and foremost, the name. I had a really hard time coming up with this, as titling things isn’t really my strong suit. After weeks of soul searching, I still couldn’t find a name that suited me. Only a few days before my planned launch of New Year’s Day did I find my answer. So I would like to thank Toru Sato, a random commenter on the YouTube video “Your Lie In April op 2 full”, uploaded by Ivan Rea. “There Goes My Kokoro” was inspired by his fondness of the wallpaper used in the video, and it inspired me to google “There Goes My Kokoro” and find that no one had yet acquired the domain. Again, thank you, Toru Sato, I couldn’t have done this without you.

Now, about the blog itself. You see, even though Tumblr was a fine place for my blog, I felt it was necessary to move to a place more room for expansion, customization, and revenue opportunities. To be honest, I don’t really have a tight grip on the situation, and am trying to learn the inner workings of WordPress as I go along. That being said, I am not abandoning my Tumblr just yet, so don’t you worry. The goal is to find a way so that my two blogs can complement each other. Tumblr seems to have a more social aspect whereas WordPress is seemingly more professional. Of course, this is just me talking from basic research, and I don’t know enough to decide if one is better than the other. We shall see in due time, but for now I’m going to play around with the two, and hopefully find what is the best for you, my reader.

One thing (or multiple) you might see from me in the future is more art and videos. Designing a site is harder than I imagined, but I will try to make this the best that I can. Follow me on Twitter for updates on the matter, as well as all the other shit I do. Thank you, and have a great year.

Anime, Gaming, and My Personal 2016 New Year Resolutions

sakurasouAnime Resolutions

Watch more of it. Done.

Actually, that’s something easier said than done. I have to find the time for it/work hard to make time for it. Because it is important. To you (my oh so cherished reader), to my blog, and most importantly, to me. Anime is like half my fucking life, and I’m okay with that.

So here’s to watching anime.

And not only that, but writing about anime too. I want to write more reviews and Anime Quick Thoughts (trademark pending), and also a new thing I’ll be unveiling soon. (So stay tuned…except this is a blog, not a T.V. station, but…you know what I mean.)

Gaming Resolutions

I know I don’t write about gaming as often as I do anime, but it’s still an important part of who I am. So of course, I’m going to play and write about video games. And perhaps even do some of these newfangled “Let’s Plays” and “Twitch Streams” that are so popular with the kids. But before any of that, I’m going to make this promise, THAT I AM 100% POSITELY GOING TO REGRET BUT FUCK IT.

I promise to ‘platinum’ Fallout 4 within the year 2016, and if I fail to do so, I will record a video of myself getting a snowball thrown at my junk, which I will then upload onto YouTube for your enjoyment.

Signed: crispyn64

Personal Resolutions

I want to hit the gym. You see, there’s a gym that comes with tuition at my college, and I did not utilize it at all last semester. So I’m going to this year, because I want to look like this:

hot araragi 2

Yeah.

Another personal resolution of mine is to FUCKING PUBLISH SOMETHING. I need to get published work out there if I’m going to do this professionally (writing, that is). Now, that’s not to say that I’m just going to shit things out for the hell of it. I am going to put hard work into everything I create, don’t you worry. It’s just, I need something out there, you know?

So I’m hoping to bring at least two of my “creative projects” to fruition this year, one of which should be out by next month (hopefully).

My final resolution is to just better myself all around. To be a better writer. To be a better drawer. To be a better musician. To be a better creator. To be the very best, like no one ever was. Okay, maybe I’m getting a little carried away here. The point is, I want to get better.

So here’s to 2016. Hopefully we can all get a little bit better.
